Registered Democrats Fastest-Growing Segment of New Gun Owners

The 2020 presidential election just got even more interesting with the revelation that out of the 20 million guns sold this year alone, the largest and fastest-growing demographic of new gun owners is…drumroll please…registered Democrats. This information comes from a Rasmussen poll via our friends at the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA). The focus of the poll was obviously to gauge whether or not these new gun owners “feel safer” or not with a gun in their home…but we think that they’re missing the real point, and so does CCRKBA chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“Perhaps the most important revelation in this survey,” said Gottlieb, “is that 39 percent of Democrats own guns, which means Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are alienating a huge bloc of potential voters with their extremist gun control agenda less than a month before the November election.”

It says “Shall Not Be Infringed,” not “Depending On How You Voted.”

Here’s an important point to remember for everyone on both sides of the political aisle: The Second Amendment is not partisan. The Right to Keep and Bear Arms applies to all Americans, regardless of political affiliation. Support for the Second Amendment has become a regular plank in the Republican platform, but there’s plenty of lumber left over for progressives…if they want it. That’s a big “if.”

Back to the Rasmussen poll. The very first line of their report reads thusly: “Over one-fifth of Americans who have a gun in their household have added one since the Black Lives Matter anti-police protests began in late May and feel safer because they’ve done so.”

I’m a deeply cynical person who’s been watching Rasmussen’s antics for a long time. That’s why my call is that they’re hoping to prove that the recent surge in gun ownership is due to racism, not a perfectly reasonable fear of rioting and violence.

Gottlieb is a bit more circumspect with his comments, stating, “We’ve been treated to months of images on the nightly news showing cities under siege, businesses being vandalized, looted and even burned. People have been killed, more have been injured including scores of police officers, and all we hear from protesters are demands for cuts to police departments, while radical city councils work overtime to appease the mob.

“Who in their right mind wouldn’t take steps to make their home and family safer,” he questioned.

It’s not about race, no matter how much Biden wishes it was.

By the way, Rasmussen? If you were hoping to try to prove that the recent surge in gun sales was driven by racism, you’re going to have to keep hoping. From their own poll:

“White gun-owning households are less likely than black and other minority ones to have added a gun since late May. Whites are also less likely than the others to feel more safe with a gun in the house but more likely to say it has no impact on their personal safety.”

“Yet Biden wants to make it harder for honest citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and Harris is waiting in the wings with her own extremist agenda if Biden—should he win in November—is unable to finish his term,” reminded Gottlieb.

“[Biden and Harris] are also not making any friends among the estimated five million-plus new gun owners who purchased a firearm for the first time since these destructive demonstrations began,” he added. “Those Americans bought guns to protect their families and homes while Biden, Harris and other far left Democrats have publicly supported protesters and their demands to defund police departments across the country.”

If 2020 has taught us anything…

“The last six months have taught millions of people the importance of having a constitutional right to own a firearm,” Gottlieb observed. “They’ve learned how restrictive and pointless some gun control laws can be. Now they’re being asked by two anti-gun career politicians, and their party, for support so they can enact even more restrictions while they erode public safety and expect the American public to accept this as the ‘new normal.’ No wonder people are buying guns. They’re praying for the best, but preparing for the worst.”

That Democratic bumper sticker at the top of this article is every bit as true today as it was 51 years ago. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Let’s hope nobody votes to make themselves an outlaw.
