Need To Improve Your Accuracy? Say Hello to GREEN STREAK

The firearms industry has seen an unprecedented growth in the number of new shooters. While we have seen spurts in the past, there has never been such a massive spike in new gun ownership. The reasons behind this growth have been attributed to the notable increase in violent crime around the country and a political apathy about providing any solutions. In short, people are figuring out that they are indeed their own first responders.  Like new shooters in the past, these new gun owners take to ranges around the country. They set up their targets, load their mags and start pressing the trigger. One thing I hear from many new shooters is, “I can’t see where I hit.” While those of us who have been shooting since George Washington was a private have learned to “trust the process,” these new shooters are exactly right. How much easier would it be if we were able to actually see the bullet fly down range and hit our target?  The team at AMMO Inc. shares that same curiosity and have created a solution. Say hello to GREEN STREAK.

AMMO Inc. has worked to tackle this challenge and has developed and patented what they call “O.W.L” technology, or One Way Luminescence. This unique technology allows the shooter to visually see the projectile’s path toward its target. Unlike traditional tracers used by the military, GREEN STREAK rounds are nonincendiary. They do not generate heat so they are safe to use in environments where tracers are prohibited and can become a serious fire hazard. The light that you see is a luminescent material that is charged by the flash of the round going off. Just as you use a flashlight to charge some glow-in-the-dark materials, GREEN STREAK works the same way. GREEN STREAK addresses the “location giveaway” that old-school tracers give as well. When people in the military use tracers they are keenly aware that they give away their position. These new rounds are only visible within 30º of the shooter’s point of view. This means you can see the STREAK, but it doesn’t point back to your position. AMMO Inc. is leading this project with green because green light is notably easier to distinguish than red light. Green triggers a much higher number of receptor cells in the human eye making it easier to pick up. This is also why so many laser manufacturers are going to green lasers. Because of its immediate feedback, this ammo allows you to quickly make corrections.

This immediate feedback is an exceptional tool for new and even experienced shooters. While we can probably see our hits on super close targets, once we start pushing back, we are unable to see if our rounds are going where we want them to. This feedback allows shooters to make corrections more quickly and in turn get more out of their shooting session. On a more specific note, using GREEN STREAK when you are zeroing a gun is nothing short of game changing. Many a shooter has quietly cursed to themselves as they mount a new optic only to find it is not even on paper. By seeing the path of the round flying downrange we can quickly and easily make corrections and get the gun and optic lined up. This makes the zeroing process much simpler and quicker. The feedback we receive from this technology gives us great confidence in our shots. This translates to better accuracy. Accuracy that is enjoyable on the range, but critically important in self-defense situations.

As I mentioned earlier, a majority of new gun sales have been made by those brand new to the world of guns. They are concerned about the growing wave of violence across the country and realize that the police rarely arrive in time. If the worst-case scenario occurs, you want confidence in your ability to put rounds on target. When it’s 3AM and you are slowly walking down the hall in response to the sound of breaking glass, you are going to be running scenarios through your mind. If the worst happens and you encounter a violent intruder, you need your rounds to hit your target. Being able to actually see the rounds fly towards your target not only confirms your point of aim and impact, but it reassures you that all your shots are on target and not going into walls and adjoining rooms. A majority of situation like this occur at night and in low light situations. It is here that GREEN STREAK literally shines. AMMO Inc has worked to provide a spectrum of calibers to fit just about every handgun or pistol caliber carbine in production. GREEN STREAK is available in calibers ranging from .38 Special to 45 Colt. It is also available in ball and hollow point configurations.

While these serious applications of GREEN STREAK are obviously important, it is also just fun to shoot. Spending time on the range is always a good way to spend the day, but when you can see your bullets fly it becomes a whole new level of fun. The rounds are easy to see in indoor ranges and in lower light settings on outdoor ranges. I have personally run GREEN STREAK on longer range targets just at dusk. It is interesting to see the ballistics of a round firsthand. When you launch a 9mm round for example at a 200-yard target, you can easily see the arc it follows. Using that as a guide, I quickly made my adjustments and began to ring the steel with ease. This ammo is more than just fun to shoot, it is educational.

The GREEN STREAK™ is currently produced in a world-class new state-of-the-art 185,000 sq. ft. Wisconsin plant. “Building upon the great success we have had with our Red Streak™ ammunition in the marketplace, our team has worked to expand our patent on the cutting-edge application process we utilize to apply the patented product to the round, resulting in the grant 18 months ago of additional patent protection,” said Fred Wagenhals, AMMO’s Chairman & CEO. “At the same time, our engineering team has been working to develop this green version of our O.W.L. Technology™ to offer the Streak™ rounds in that color variant because green is a top visibility color for the naked human eye. Based upon their hard work, we are excited to roll this color-enhanced product out to the commercial, military, and law enforcement markets.” This innovative mindset has changed the tracer world and set a new bar for performance.
