Springfield Armory’s New Hellcat Pistol: In-Depth Review

XDMAN knows Springfield Armory guns inside outso whats his call on the Hellcat

The often-imitated, never-duplicated XDMAN reviews Springfield’s biggest new launch in years, the Springfield Hellcat.

Recently, Springfield Armory released the Hellcat, which currently stands as the highest-capacity micro-compact semi-automatic handgun in production. The gun was released so recently, in fact, that it may not seem like our reviewer could have had time to do a thorough review…but this is XDMAN we’re talking about here, and he was able to wangle an early production model before the release. With an astonishing 11+1 9mm capacity packed into a gun barely 6 inches wide, 4 inches high and 1 inch thick, is the Hellcat set to be your new favorite CCW pistol?

Who is XDMAN? Well, you might recognize him from such After Dark specials as “Raiders of the Lost Rifle” and “Raiders of the Lost Rifle, the Climax.” (And if you read that last sentence like Troy McClure from “The Simpsons,” then my work here is done.) Although our After Dark series is definitely satire, XDMAN is not only a real person, he’s one of the country’s foremost experts on all things Springfield Armory. What many people don’t know is that he’s also a gifted artist who creates custom-painted guns that will set you apart from the crowd.

Right now, Guns & Gadgets Daily is giving away not one, not two, but three custom-painted rifles courtesy of XDMAN! The first two are the prizes in our Molon Labe Giveaway (which we created just for Beto O’Rourke). Here’s what they look like:

  1. I see what he is saying about the mag pinching, and then the bearvertail on the XDS putting a raw spot on you hand after extended shooting. However it should be mentioned that both of these issues can be fixed very easily with some careful Dremel work. Nice thing about plastic guns is they are easy to modify. The extended Hellcat mag, just put a 45 degree bevel where it’s pinching you. The sharp edges are what pinch. Break that edge, and the pinch becomes a squeeze, and no longer an issue. Modify the mag ONLY, that way, if you screw up, it’s just a mag. With the XDS, round off that sharp edge with a Dremel, sandpaper, files, whatever. Go slow and easy and be careful. Just take enough material to improve comfort. Easy to do.

  2. Kenneth Wetzel: One pound, two ounces is “too heavy?”

That is lighter than a Colt Detective Special 6 shot .38 Special. It is lighter than a G26, or a Walther PPK while holding double the round count.

After wearing either a full sized 1911 or a Hi-Power or a CZ75 for many years, 18.3oz doesn’t seem like much more than fishing weight.

    😉

  3. Seriously…WHYYYY would I listen to a review by someone who has the gun’s emblem literally tattooed on his forearm?!?! (#facepalm)

  4. Great review but I gotta tell ya- If I see you in a short sleeve shirt, I’ll know you’re armed!
