Smells Like Infringement: Senator Cory Booker Edition

Wondering what that smell is? No, nobody’s boiling broccoli…it’s Sen. Cory Booker!
I don’t know about you, but my favorite part of the campaign election cycle is the bit where the candidates get in slap-fights to see who can be the most extreme (which happens right up until the part where they receive their nomination, and then they run for the middle as fast as they can). That’s why I chortled in my joy when I saw that Senator Cory Booker, D-Uh, (well, New Jersey…same difference) has recently grunted out a 14-point plan to “end the gun violence epidemic.” It’s truly a thing of beauty, this little Undie-Bomber Manifesto of his, from the bold title to the gentle little curl at the end. He’d like you to believe that all of this passes Constitutional muster, but I just took a deep breath and as far as I can tell…this smells like infringement. Grab your Febreze and dive in with me!
The title: “Cory’s Plan to End the Gun Violence Epidemic.”
We haven’t even gotten into the body text and I’m already cocking a snook like the Rock in the .gif up there. Let’s start with this: What gun violence epidemic? It doesn’t exist. Crime–all crime, not just crimes committed with guns–has been dropping since the mid-1990s and continues to drop year over year. What we do have is an epidemic of people who think that the people who do commit gun violence are going to stop doing so because someone passed a law telling them not to.
Should we tell him…?
Here’s the money quote from the article I linked above:
“The plan would also ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines as well as bump stocks, and includes instituting a universal background check system to be enforced on sales at gun shows and in private and online sales, policies gun control advocates have been united in pushing for.” (Emphasis mine.)
Should we tell Cory that bump stocks are already banned? (Nah, let’s not…it’s funnier this way.) Should we ask Cory to define what an “assault weapon” is? (Let’s do; after all, good ol’ Dianne Feinstein’s “shoulder thing that goes up” is almost as old as her granny panties and we could use a new stock phrase to laugh at.) Should we ask him how banning high-cap mags in a world in which 3-D printing exists is going to help do anything other than sell 3-D printers? (We probably shouldn’t; he’ll try to ban those next.)
Here comes the ol’ “licenses to own guns” plan…
Booker would also like to institute a licensing system to own guns. The first couple of requirements don’t sound too bad off the cuff, because they’re commonly required to get a CCW permit–a background check and a gun-safety class. (Don’t get me wrong; that’s still infringement…it’s just the most palatable part of the turd sandwich to follow.) However, that’s not the end of it. That license would only be good for five years and you would have to submit to “compliance checks,” which I’m sure would be totally fairly applied and definitely wouldn’t happen far more often to poor people or people whose political party is out of favor. Uh-huh. (Forget flying cars; I’m waiting for science to finally create a sarcasm font.)
Oh, the universal background check canard! My favorite!
You may have noticed that I skimmed the “universal background check” part of the quote. That’s because it’s the best and I’m saving it for last. Requiring a NICS check for every gun sale sounds okay to some people…until they remember that the “universal” part refers to private transfers, such as inheritance. Sometimes it even refers to “transfers” such as loaning your firearm to a family member. It also ignores the fact that the NICS system is flawed. Many folks who have been adjudicated mentally ill and dangerous to themselves and others never have their names included in the system. People with names similar to those of banned purchasers have found themselves blocked on NICS checks.
But here’s the very best part of Booker’s plan, which appears on his website. I’m not linking it, because screw him, but here’s what he has to say: “More than 90 percent of American voters — and nearly 70 percent of NRA members — support universal background checks.”
No, no they don’t…and anyone who says they do is a liar. Whatever its faults, the NRA does not, never has, and never will release its database of members. There’s no way to poll NRA members other than to count on whomever you’re polling to accurately self-report. However, if it’s totally cool to make up lies and use them to sell your agenda, then I’m in! Here goes: Senator Cory Booker dropped a deuce in the urinal, and it smells like infringement!
What fibs would you like to tell about Cory? Tell us in the comments…or share it on your social media and report back!
New Jersey has some of the most stringent gun laws in the US
Many, many years ago I worked as an assistant prosecutor in Newark NJ. There was a story that a Judge in Newark would not believe that guns could be easily bought on the streets of Newark. Purportedly, a Court security officer went out during lunch and returned with a weapon he bought on the streets of Newark The gun was turned over to the authorities.
As a lifetime NJ hostage (resident) and former LEO who worked in Newark I want to ask Cory Booker how did all the similar gun laws in NJ stop his fine city where he was Mayor before becoming a federal douche, stop the hundreds of shootings and murders that were committed by the criminals that had illegally obtained guns during his watch? I know for a fact that Newark PD was ordered to change and or hide their violent crime stats under his tutelage so that he could get elected. This is the same guy who bankrupt his city and now he wants to run this country. Good luck and God bless America (just not with him running the show).
He smells of Marxism. They want to ban and then confiscate all weapons from U.S. citizens.
22 trillion in debt. When they run out of money or worse our money is worthless and they take what you have let’s see do they want society armed? Nope! If you want the truth follow the power and money trial.
Just like all Socialist nations. The people are too dangerous to own guns.
Any time anyone with a “D” after their name suggests a new “gun control” or “gun registration” program, you can bet your last nickel that the final step in that program will be confiscation.
Yo, Book, with such extensive background checking and licensing, would the “license” also be a national carry permit?
As in the case of most of these blabbering fools who grunt out stupidity, it is a disease of their minds..
Coupled to that are the fools who vote them in.
Thereby hangs the tail…Solution ????? Well if I had my way voters would have to pass an IQ test, basic English comprehension and an understanding of the Constitution its amendments and Federal law..
I guess that wouldn’t leave many socialists or demorats in the voting pool. Oh well.
Not many at all, but Marxists will always be Marxists and will always want the people disarmed.
LIAR Senator Cory Booker – LIAR PARTY OF ONE YOUR TABLE IS READY!
please correct me if I am wrong, but wasn;t spartacus crucified? perhaps a fitting end to any political careerist.
Yeah, I think so. They didn’t have firing squads back then.
Sorry, but, what is on my mind to describe the SOCIALIST CONGRESSMAN CORY BOOKER simply is not fit for decent folks eyes or ears. May GOD have mercy on the United States Of America and protect us all from Booker and the rest of his Socialist Democrat buddies. They are bound to destroy this country and the fantastic way of life we experience. Need an example of socialism? Look up Venezuela. Need an example of gun control? Look up Hitler and Nazi Germany, Stalin and Communist Soviet Union. There are quite a few more, but, just these two MURDERED around 30,000,000 of their own citizens once they allowed themselves to be disarmed. Dying Proof GUN CONTROL WORKS!!!
There are goverment regulations on drugs and alcohol but those regulations have not stopped drug addictions and deaths from overdose. They have not stopped alcoholism and DUI deaths, not to mention drug and alcohol induced violence. The goverment regulates tobacco sales and placed warnings on tobacco products but it has not prevented lung cancer and heart disease from smoking. My point is goverment regulations on firearms will not stop a killer from killing someone. These regulations will not stop violent behavior in this society or any other society. If someone wants to kill someone they will find the means. Bombs, knives, automobiles, baseball bats ect. All can be used as a weapon of violence and most of these weapons are more accessable as a firearm. Stop all the liberal retoric. Guns do not kill people, people kill people period. Do not allow these liberals infrenge or deny us our 2nd amendment rights as citizens of the greatest nation on earth, The United States of Americe. Cory Booker and all you other liberal idiots quit lying to America and get out of our goverment. Give it back to the patriots and statesmen that love America.
Very well stated!
Heil Cory!! Just another Nazi asshole.
Trace nailed it with this! “What we do have is an epidemic of people who think that the people who do commit gun violence are going to stop doing so because someone passed a law telling them not to.” And, even if all guns were confiscated and destroyed, someone would find a way to commit mass murder. What do we do then? All the guns are gone, none to blame!! Sounds like a flawed root cause process.
Even if all guns are confiscated and destroyed, the drug cartels who are doing a good job of smuggling drugs into this country will think nothing of throwing a few guns in with the drugs.
One thing to always keep in mind: 90% of statistics are entirely made up on the spur of the moment. Or is it 87.8%. I can never remember.
First of all, the “Shoulder thing that goes up” catch phrase actually belongs to former New York congresswoman, Carolyn McCarthy … so let’s give credit where crdit is due. The rest is all Booker, & it stinks to high heaven.
How about unicorns eat assault rifles and crap smores heh-heh
Booker is a buffoon, a small minded racist pig and a joke as any candidate the Democrats can produce. His words, his actions and his intent is available to all who want it, as he’s made himself a very public person… as bad as Biden, but not quite as bad Hillary, but then their all idiots in the first place. We don’t need gun control and legislation that is unproductive, legislation will not stop criminals from getting the guns they want, it only stops the law abiding citizens from the right to protect themselves from the thugs and criminals Booker supports!
When I was old enough we were taught NOT touch fathers weapons. Sure we could hunt once approved, but only after taught RESPECT. We had friends with guns .. in there bedrooms .. in the closet .. in the corner .. loaded and not .. but we’re taught RESPECT .. that friends parents could discipline us and then call home and report it … But we never had that problem growing up. You carried the family name .. act like it. Do not Embarass yourself .. and better never Embarass the family name. So Cory Booker is an uneducated embarassment to his family name.
Kevin, you said it and that is the problem, lack of respect.
too many people today do not have the respect for others or for life that previous generations have.
I also taught my son at an early age what a firearm was and what it was made for. He knew he was not to touch a firearm unless dad was with him. I taught him respect for firearms and his right to keep and bear arms. He is now 40 years old and is a responsible gun owner just like his father and his father before him. Teach respect for firearms not goverment control.
You know Spartacus just wants us to go back to the sward and shield. O wait that was the assault weapon of the time.
We can’t have that well I guess you are right he’s just a turd.
Speaking of morons .. but do not we have background checks, proof of identity, proof of residence checks in place and in operation. The last weapons I bought I had to wait two days and they had to resubmit one paper as there were two of us living in two different states. Which I found odd as I ever lived in or been to Colorado .. even as a veteran. Ahh thorough invedtigation .. and the first weapon I purchased at a used military gun sport shop, I had to wait 48 hours .. so the laws on the books are sufficient if performed and used. Cory Booker is another who wants to infringe upon my rights as a law biding citizen.
I think we should license politicians, it will come in handy when they commit a crime, and we need to find them for their second term, the one in prison.
Two thumbs up Dan. Well put and I would vote for that.
why do these idiots think noone is going to check what they say
spartacus wasent even that dumb and there was no internet back then
Spartacus is no different than Eric Swalwell, other than Eric Swalwell did not beat around the bush, Swalwell came right out and said that he would nuke American citizens if they did not turn in their guns. I am willing to bet that both of them have armed bodyguards/security details guarding them 24/7.
They are both so far down in the polls that about all they can do is run off at the mouth.
Every time there is a school shooting the attacks on the Second Amendment intensity. We do not need any more laws we need better mental health care. We also need to have better training and follow through for teachers and parents so they can identify the possibility of this happening.
Cory Booker is another self serving, blathering loudmouth who is totally in left field regarding guns. Another pompous ass in my opinion. Cory, sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and let people assume you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Wow, Congress really has some clowns in it and Booker is one of them. To all gun owners, stand tall!
Booker, driving is a privilege, Keeping and Bearing arms is a RIGHT PROTECTED BY OUR CONSTITUTION! Know the difference though I believe you do, but are too dishonest to admit it like all Socialist/Democrats!
Gun registration is the key to confiscation as history has proven. So the question to The Socialist/Democrats before any debate should be; Just what do you fear about honest citizens retaining their Constitutional Rights?
REAL AMERICANS DON’T GIVE UP THEIR GUNS AND REAL AMERICANS DON’T TRY TO TAKE THEM!
