Gun Rights
Biden & Bloomberg: We Hate it When Guns Save Lives
No matter how cynical I get about the gun-grabbers, I simply cannot keep up.
A few days ago, in the wake of an attempted mass shooting at a Texas church that was halted by an armed citizen, we published an article about how to tell when gun-grabbers will politicize a mass shooting. In the opening paragraph, I predicted that the Texas incident would disappear from the news immediately because it runs counter to the anti-gunners’ narrative. I was wrong, and I just couldn’t be any happier about that.
As it turns out, someone in the mainstream media decided to ask the Anti-Gun Godfather, presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg, what he had to say about the Texas church shooting and its implications for expanding concealed-carry rights. This, in and of itself, is moderately shocking–up until now, the MSM has been extremely reluctant to cover armed-citizen incidents, and even more reluctant to call out anti-gunners. But the real shock was that Bloomberg answered, and he appears to have done so honestly. Here’s what he said:
This bald assertion that in Bloomberg’s America the church shooting would have ended in as many lives lost as possible is stunning, but in truth it’s a logically consistent extension of Bloomberg’s mentality. He believes, has always believed, and will always believe, that there is no circumstance in which it’s okay for an ordinary citizen to be able to defend him or herself with a privately owned firearm. So there you have it, America.
That said, the smart money remains on Creepy Uncle Joe Biden winning the Democratic nomination; Bloomberg no doubt has designs on the Vice Presidential side of the ticket. Unlike Bloomberg, Biden has always cagily toed the anti-gunners’ party line that they don’t want to ban all guns…just some of them, for some people, depending on the circumstances and whether Mercury is in retrograde. For example, Biden does seem to think that it’s okay to shoot a shotgun in self-defense…as long as you violate some laws and gun-safety rules while you do it.
But that doesn’t mean that Biden’s America isn’t every bit as much a “Gun-Free Zone” as Bloomberg’s is; he’s just smarter about taking an incremental approach to banning guns. But make no mistake: If Joe Biden had his way, that Texas church shooting would have been a massacre. Here’s what he had to say about the Texas law that allows concealed carry in places of worship:
“It is irrational, with all due respect to the Governor of Texas, it’s irrational what they’re doing. … And we’re talking about loosening access to have guns? Being able to take them into places of worship, store them in schools, it’s just absolutely irrational.”
So it appears that, counter to my prediction, this story may indeed have some more life in the news cycle. I couldn’t be happier about that, because it’s important for the nation’s “Silent Majority” to understand what, exactly, the current Presidential front-runners have in mind for the future of the Second Amendment. But consider this: One of the most common negotiation tactics is to start by asking for far, far more than you think you can get (even if it’s more than what you need or want) so that you can allow your opposition to “bargain you down” while appearing fair and reasonable. That’s what this is–the opening salvo of a negotiation that the Constitution specifically forbids.
We know that you, Guns & Gadgets Daily reader, already know this. But the vast majority of America’s voters aren’t as informed as you are, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to help spread the word with a social-media share. (The buttons are at the bottom of the page, hint hint.)
