Why I Love to “Put it in a Pelican”!

Since 1976, serious travelers who carry sensitive and expensive equipment have had a mantra: “Put it in a Pelican.”

Known for robustness, versatility, and bedrock-solid protection for valuable equipment in extreme conditions, Pelican’s loyal customer base includes professional photographers, hunters, and military and industrial users. And me, the Unpewfessional Himself! Coming from the firearms industry, I’m here to tell you that Pelican should be your first thought when you have to transport and protect your firearms.

But don’t forget that Pelican as a company is not a one-trick pony. Pelican has been making the Protector series of cases since 1978, so there are now literally hundreds of different cases in a myriad of sizes and configurations.

Of course, when you think of Pelican, you envision the classic black industrial and tactical-looking protector case. Me, too. Then I visited the the Flagship Colorcase store in Las Vegas, and it opened my mind like an afternoon with Hunter S. Thompson.

With Colorcase, you can go beyond the standard black, desert tan, and OD green and indulge your chromatic cravings with colors like lime green, blue, amethyst, and more! They also offer full replacement parts like handles and latches that are also available in different colors. Hear me out … I could build an Auburn University themed Pelican 1510 that’s molded blue, and add orange handles and transform my peaceful ocean bird into a WAR EAGLE!

You can laugh at my favorite team, but not my color scheme: As a photographer I often travel with a full outfit of camera gear, and the 1510 is the largest size allowed for airline carry-on to fit in the above storage, but as you know airlines love to make you gate-check your bags. My custom orange and blue case stands out on the baggage-claim carousel, and is easily identifiable.

Put it in a Pelican

Pelican cases can be used to protect anything that needs protecting, not just guns and electronics. I have used a case to protect my kids’ band instruments. (Nothing tests durability like teenagers who think money grows on trees.)
