Springfield has taken aim at much maligned Dicks Sporting Goods

In a surprising move that is sure to get the full attention of the expected 20,000 protesters here at the NRAAM in Dallas, Springfield Armory has chosen to sever ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods, in a counter move to support 2nd Amendment rights.

Springfield Armory announces its decision in response to Dick’s Sporting Goods’ attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms

GENESEO, IL, (05/03/18) – Springfield Armory is severing ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring a group for anti-Second Amendment lobbying.

This latest action follows Dick’s Sporting Goods’ decision to remove and destroy all modern sporting rifles (MSR) from their inventory. In addition, they have denied Second Amendment rights to Americans under the age of 21. We at Springfield Armory believe that all law abiding American citizens of adult age are guaranteed this sacred right under our Constitution.

It is clear where Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, stand on the Second Amendment, and we want to be clear about our message in response. Their position runs counter to what we stand for as a company. At Springfield Armory, we believe in the rights and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question. We will not accept Dick’s Sporting Goods’ continued attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans.

If the owners of a venue hang a sign up saying no firearms, those people should be morally and financially responsible for the security of all who enter. Secret service had that covered fairly well. Progs think they can just hang a sign, and unicorns will handle security. Terribly upset when it does not work.

The best thing anyone interested in supporting 2nd amendment rights is to send money to the NRA, and to the Republican Party, and go to and support every gun show and firing range in your locality. Buy something while you’re there. The almighty dollar speaks volumes, not stupid comments calling some guy named Jack by his last name Meoff. .

    So, do we want the government to get even larger and continue to force it’s will on private corporations? You may not agree with Dick’s decision, but those who are constantly fighting to protect their rights to own weapons should probably understand and uphold a private company’s right to change their business practices.

    Also, most supporters of the 2nd amendment that I know often refer to the beliefs and ideals of our forefathers. If I recall correctly, the only people that really had a voice in our early government were white 21-year-old male landowners. You can’t pick and choose when to strictly apply the forefather argument.

  21. Very proud of Springfield Armory for cutting ties with Dick’s. They(Dick’s) are a unholy bunch, who not only does not support millions of gunowners, they do not support religious freedom. I had them figured out awhile back, when they were ready to hire me, but did not like that the only day I would not work was Sun., due to my faith. Would never shop, browse, or buy from them again.

  27. Since Dick’s predominantly sells clothing and a few non-firearm sporting goods, I doubt either their anti-gun stance, or Springfield Armory’s reaction to it, will hurt them much.

    They lost me as a gun customer when the first thing they did after taking over the xxx chain was drop handguns entirely. I had been looking at a pair of stainless Ruger New Vaquero’s, and they lost that sale by their quick action to drop pistols – they weren’t there for me to buy any more. The only thing I have been buying from them since then is on-sale Remington Gun Club shotgun shells for SASS matches. They put them on sale often, and at about $5 a box – now I’ll be looking for sales at other stores – no more case or 2-case buys at Dick’s.

    I don’t think their trendy “sports” clothing buyers will care one way or the other, though, so their bottom line may not suffer – to offset lost sales as their gun and ammo sales drop off, they’ll get to fire all the people who currently work in the firearms department.

Add to this the fact Springfield Armory attended the NRA which infringed on the 2nd Amendment’s right to keep and bear by banning all weapons from all attendees. So put a gun in every classroom, court house, legislatures office, rallies, and every home. Just don’t bring the to our convention. LOL!!

  34. If the item I want is on sale at Dick’s, I will not ask another retailer match the price. I will purchase item at the other retailer. The gun game in the US goes way past the gun issue. Perhaps a listen to Sara Hopkins will make it clear Where we are headed.

  35. This controversy happened some time ago……..why has it taken Springfield Armory this long to react. I agree with the action taken but it seems they wanted to see how this would play out first. A subsidiary of Dick’s, Field and Stream stores were only about 40 in number and Dick’s said they were removing AR-15’s from these stores. Dick’s is a running and golf shop anyway…….who cares about Dick’s.

  37. I find Dick’s to be over priced and completely lacking in customer service, the last thing I bought from them was CO2 and they under filled my bottle by about 40% so I dropped them almost 2 yrs. ago now. But I’m still willing to buy another Springfield rifle.

Never much cared for Dick’s anyway, but did like Field & Stream; enough that I was a subscriber for many years – key word there being WAS , When they ran off at the mouth a couple of months ago about no longer selling “assault style weapons” or selling to anyone under 21, I was BEYOND incensed, I was absolutely LIVID !
    I was 19 the first time I was shot at (in 1969) – so what they are saying to me is my willingness to defend the U.S. Constitution was an exercise in futility ( if the 2nd Amendment is not binding, none of the are ). There’s about 9 million of us who served in that war alone who would strongly disagree. Remember, originally there were 10 Amendment all included in the ORIGINAL Constitution; the Founding Fathers must have felt pretty strongly about this Right if they made it #2, don’t you think ? Anyway pi**ed me off enough to cancel my subscription, and I will NEVER go back to it. PERIOD. End of rant.

  44. Retailers have no business trying to manipulate our constitution or laws. There should be a law against their interference with the laws of states and constitutional law. Dicks should not be allowed to operate if they believe they are above the laws of the land.

  50. When I think of the 2nd Amendment it’s not just about hand guns & long guns. What about knifes, archery, etc. These also can be used to protect you and your family. I think Dick’s / Field & Stream have made a bad decision on there part. Also at the age of 18 you can serve in the Military ! They won’t have any of my business on any sporting items!
    I do support Springfield Arms on their decision !!!

    1. I was 19 years old in the USMC and qualified w/a 7.62 M14 (Springfield Armory) Rifle and a 45 cal semiautomatic pistol to serve Country and USMC. Dicks sporting goods can kiss my ass and the thousands of veterans also who fought for them to have the rights they so poorly chose to pick, Dicks will soon be GONE!

    I made sure the store manager knew what level of customer they had lost, (what I have spent there is essentially a small fortune) & he mentioned just how often he had heard the same story.

They might not be able to physically confiscate them, but they are certainly trying to make it more difficult and more expensive for anyone and everyone to get and keep them. The problem lies in the individuals who have evil intent. A car or van being driven into a crowd of people is fast becoming a popular way of killing several people at one time. Car and truck bombs have been used for decades. Where is the cry for elimination of cars, trucks and vans? The liberals aren’t willing to do without their means of transportation, but they sure are willing to make others do without the means to protect themselves.

If Dicks is wishy-washy on the 2nd Amendment, not only will I continue to purchase Springfield Arms weaponry, but I will cut ties with Dicks, as well. You have the freedom to ride the fence, but you must also suffer the consequences of your actions. Saying “Goodbye” to Dicks, and with little remorse.

Second, the founders of this country saw that the greatest threat to liberty is the threat of tyranny from their own government (read The Federalist Papers) and so this text was added to the bill of rights in order to ensure that the our own government couldn’t disarm the general populace and win one of the three points that must be accomplished in order to subjugate a people (it can be argued that only two are required, but it’s generally accepted that there are three key points). Third, the issue of ‘exotic and strange’ was resolved in the Supreme Court, shortly after the ratification of the bill of rights. Fourth, an AR-15 or any other rifle in its class is not and has never been used by the military, and so can’t be classified as a military weapon. Fifth, are you a United States Citizen between the ages of 18 and 45? If you answered yes, SURPRISE, you’re a member of the militia! Sixth, does it surprise you to learn that being able to operate a vehicle on public roads is NOT a right, but a privilege? There is no comparison between firearm licensing and vehicle operation. If you want to continue the analogy though, it would be like saying that you need a license to purchase a vehicle (which you don’t) or (to go into the realm of the ridiculous) that you need a license to purchase a woopie cushion. A firearm is a piece of property. Without a human to direct it, it’s just so much metal, same as a vehicle. I’ll finish by saying that the text above clearly states that the right of the people to keep and bare arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. This is some of the absolute strongest language that can possibly be used in our English. It is definitive in its meaning and intent.
