Surgeon General’s Warning! Guns May Cause Lead Poisoning! GET VAXXED!

This may be the most hilarious anti-gun antic since Kinzinger shot that reporter

I’m starting to think that California anti-gunners are in it just to make me giggle. In fact, when I first saw this, I had to double-check to ensure that it wasn’t a Babylon Bee headline. But nope, this is real: California firearms dealers are being forced to provide pamphlets to their customers describing the dangers of gun ownership. I can’t stop laughing, because they finally did it.

Did what? Well, let’s back up about 15 years until the first time you saw the following urgent message on your jar of peanut butter: “WARNING: Contains peanuts.” I don’t know about you, but my immediate response to that was, “What’s next? A pamphlet at the gun store that explains that guns can be used to kill people?”

But yesterday’s absurdity is today’s reality, and right now, there are people in California gun stores being informed that pointing your muzzle at someone and pulling the trigger could result in that person’s death. And it’s absolutely wonderful. Oh, to be certain, there are legislative and rights-based reasons to think this new Cali law is absurd and unfair. But as for me, I hope they keep it up. All I ask is that I and my fellow firearms owners be permitted to help draft that all-important warning text.

Here are some of my suggestions:

WARNING: THIS PRODUCT IS DANGEROUS TO UNLAWFUL INTRUDERS.

WARNING: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HEAR THE OCEAN IF YOU HOLD IT TO YOUR EAR.

WARNING: DO NOT PUT PENIS INTO OPEN BREECH OF THIS M1 CARBINE.

Of course, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, as an advocacy organization, needs to be a little more politic about its statement. I have no idea how many tries it took to come out with this reaction before they were able to do it with a straight face, but CCRKBA (naturally) says California’s new law requiring firearms dealers to provide gun buyers with a pamphlet warning about the dangers of gun ownership amounts to “legislative social bigotry.”

“This new law, AB 1598, is just another effort by anti-gun Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom to discourage Californians from exercising their constitutional right to become gun owners,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “At what point do Californians tell lawmakers in Sacramento they’ve had enough of Democrats’ dishonest demagoguery? Demonizing guns is a deceptive strategy designed to fool people into believing something is being done to prevent violent crime, when the opposite is true.

“Why not force car dealers to provide a pamphlet to each customer, telling them about the dangers of driving,” he wondered. “Owning a car, especially in California, is more dangerous than owning a gun. More people were killed in traffic accidents in 2023, the most recent year for which data is available, than from gunshot wounds that year. But nowhere in the Golden State are car dealers being forced to hand out pamphlets warning motorists that getting behind the wheel is hazardous to their health.

“Why are Gavin Newsom and California lawmakers singling out guns instead of cars,” Gottlieb asked. “After all, gun ownership is protected by the constitution, but owning a car isn’t. If the Democrats who pushed this into law wanted to discourage owning something which is dangerous, they should have studied their own data. According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, the state suffered 4,013 traffic fatalities in 2023 while The Trace said California logged 3,208 gun-related deaths for the same year, the most recent period for which data is available.

“All this proves Gavin Newsom and his Democrat colleagues aren’t really interested in saving lives,” Gottlieb observed. “They’re interested in reducing gun ownership by discouraging people from buying guns, and forcing gun dealers to act as their surrogates in the process. It’s really pathetic.”

I think Trump made a mistake when he said Gavin Newsom is incompetent. He meant the entire Cali State Government
