NRA, Gun Owners of America & Firearms Policy Coalition: The Gloves Are OFF

on

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate stood up from its seated position and proudly revealed a steamy, smelly little coil of gun control.

Everyone suspected that the knee-jerk legislation that the Biden administration is trying to pass in response to the Uvalde and Buffalo tragedies was going to be bad. It’s pretty clear that the various gun-rights organizations out there have been preparing for the worst, and they seem to be working in concert (for once). It’s also pretty clear that said gun-rights organizations have been preparing some truly sick burns to unleash on the Senate, and on the Republicans whom they hold responsible for allowing this gun-control legislation to get as far as it has.

Let’s start with the polite one, courtesy of the NRA:

“The NRA will support legislation that improves school security, promotes mental health services, and helps reduce violent crime. However, we will oppose this gun control legislation because it falls short at every level. It does little to truly address violent crime while opening the door to unnecessary burdens on the exercise of Second Amendment freedom by law-abiding gun owners.

This legislation can be abused to restrict lawful gun purchases, infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, and use federal dollars to fund gun control measures being adopted by state and local politicians. This bill leaves too much discretion in the hands of government officials and also contains undefined and overbroad provisions—inviting interference with our constitutional freedoms.

Decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States in the Heller and McDonald cases make clear that the Second Amendment is an individual constitutional freedom. We will always fight for those freedoms—and the fundamental values we have defended for over 150 years.”

Hmm, but what did the Firearms Policy Coalition have to say?

“You can thank the worthless GOP,” the FPC wrote, “which has basically f*cked you and your rights- but couldn’t be bothered to buy you dinner.”  Oh my, that is spicy! The FPC’s alert email continues, “What’s more, our analysts tell us that Congressional tyrants are already preparing motions that could send this legislation to a floor vote within days. This gun control bill is 80 pages of dense legalese, meaning these f*ckwit politicians haven’t even had time to read it.”

Good thing the FPC did! Here’s what the bill promises:

“Senators today unveiled the text of a massive gun control bill that could become the first anti-gun legislation in 26 years to pass. This bill – which was literally handcrafted by Republicans – even has the full support of Mitch McConnell, and would:

  • Expand background checks
  • Bribe states into adopting “Red Flag” gun confiscation schemes
  • Slap even more people as prohibited persons
  • And much, much more”

And last, but not least, Gun Owners of America chimes in!

Erich Pratt, Senior VP of the Gun Owners of America issued a statement saying “Once again, so-called conservative Senators are making clear they believe that the rights of American citizens can be compromised away. Let me be clear, they have NO AUTHORITY to compromise our rights, and we will not tolerate legislators who are willing to turn gun owners into second-class citizens.”

__________

This legislation is, per rumor, being fast-tracked to a floor vote. The intention is, of course, to get it passed and onto Biden’s desk before the 2022 elections, which many suspect will be more “red tide” than “blue wave.” Now is the time to contact your representatives and let them know that you will remember in November …
