New SIG SAUER Elite Hunter Tipped Rifle Cartridges For Long Shots

Excellent news for the hunters among us: Seems SIG SAUER is branching out their ammunition line to include a little something for the hunters among us…well, actually, kind of a big something. They’ve just debuted their Elite Hunter Tipped ammunition, and the strikingly different appearance of these rifle cartridges is only the beginning of the innovation on offer. In particular, the Elite Hunter line was designed to maximize a hunter’s chances of a good, clean, ethical harvest even at extended distances.
There are many factors involved in creating a hunting cartridge, but one of the top criteria is that the bullet needs to penetrate the game animal’s body deeply while expanding…but while simultaneously losing as little mass as possible. That’s exactly what the Elite Hunter Tipped ammo was created to do, delivering instant knockdown capability and maximum terminal performance at extended ranges.
The interesting appearance of these premium cartridges is distinct, but it’s not (just) there for looks. The yellow-tipped, lead-alloy bullet has an enhanced boattail design for superior flight characteristics over a wide range of velocities. Given a 130gr bullet at 2820 fps, the muzzle energy of the 260 Rem is actually 2296 ft-lbs.
Phew! Glad I’m not the only one to see the 270 with a heaver projectile and higher speed would have less energy than the 260 at the muzzel!
I’m going to guess that it’s a typo in the information we got from SIG. We’ll see if we can get the actual data!
Error in the 260 Rem muzzle energy calculstion
You might want to check your muzzle energy data. The 6.5 CM, 260 and 270 data don’t make sense. It appears the 260 energy is inflated.
