Or is it more likely that a determined attacker may start further away and get closer? So many of us spend time on the range worrying about punching perfect little groups into an X-ring. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t exactly prepare you for a self-defense scenario. Human beings act like human beings whether they’re “the bad guy” or not, and that means that someone bent on doing you harm isn’t going to hold still while you line them up at 10 yards. That’s where the “Close, Medium, Far” drill comes in. This is a practical shooting exercise that’s meant to sharpen your ability to draw from concealment and put shots on target at the distances where you’re likely to engage … close, medium, and far.
