Dick’s Might Have to Pull Out (of Field & Stream)

The bad news for Dick’s just keeps coming. Earlier this year, the retail giant decided to give its business a bris by actually destroying their inventory of AR-15s, hiring gun-control lobbyists, and forbidding all firearms sales (including long guns) to adults under 21. To the surprise of nobody (even, apparently, Dick’s head), this led to a country-wide boycott by Second Amendment supporters…but Dick’s drooping sales numbers seem to be even worse than the head Dick himself thought. In fact, Dick’s might just have to pull out of their “hook n’ bullet” stores, Field & Stream. And that’s just where the fun with Dick’s begins!
According to this article in the National Review, Dick’s CEO (whose name is actually Edward Stack and not Jimmy Drips), knew perfectly well that their cheesy move would cost them some cashflow. Saying, “We knew this would happen when — we’ve made some decisions on firearms in the past and we’ve had a pretty good idea of what these consequences were going to be,” Stack went on to assure his stockholders that he felt it was the right thing to do, and that he’d Dick’s them over again if he could.
Recently, Dick’s flaccid sales forced them to close down the hunting and shooting sections of their stores. However, clearly Dick’s thought they would still have a trick down their pants for consumers: the existence of their Field & Stream stores. Because of their separate branding, it would be easy to see why Dick’s thought they could just make a huge mess and not have to clean it up–they figured that the boycott would simply send hunters and shooters to Field & Stream.
Unfortunately for Dick’s, Americans were cagey enough to look more closely (prompting a run on magnifying glasses and microscopes). As it turns out, the Field & Stream stores aren’t doing too well, either…and it looks like Dick’s might have to pull out. But will they manage to pull out in time? As spokesdick Onan J. Agoff opines, “We will. We promise. Also, the check is in the mail.”
What can Dick’s look ahead to next, with their one eye? Only time (and a trip to the doctor) can tell!
It is very difficult to take the whole article seriously when there are waaaaay too many sophmoric references.
Removing guns from the general population won’t stop gun suicides anymore then it will stop criminals/crazies for obtaining guns. The only thing it may do is reduce the number of suicide by gun, but at the same time, will increase the # of suicides by other means.
Yes, Wal-Mart might have stopped selling Ar’s but they didn’t make an issue of it. You have to admit, Dick’s made a stupid mistake by destroying the firearms. In America everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however Dick’s pushed the envelope by destroying the firearms. All they had to do was send them back to their suppliers. But their in your face actions angered people. And destroying firearms was wrong. How would you feel if someone destroyed the article you cared about. And your lying if you say it doesn’t matter.
Dicks moral compass that they seem to have has nothing to do with the retail business. I don’t think Dicks understands that the people that are buying there guns are law abiding citizens. Only one in 20 million are disturbed individuals who if they want to can get guns on the black market. Removing guns from the general population will only stop gun suicides and so stats show lower gun shootings. The news media will never tell you about the average citizen who risks his life to protect his family and or someone else. Remember prohibition alcohol was illegal and yet it was very easy to get. That is how the KENNEDYS MADE THERE MONEY, BY BOOTLEGGING WHISKY FROM cANADA The old saying that if guns were outlawed only the outlaws would have them is so very true. Just look at Europe they are finding out that it is happening there and getting worse.

I AM 71 YRS OLD. MY SONS AND GRAND CHILDREN WILL NOT SHOP AT DICKS OR FIELD AND STREAM. I HOPE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS.
I only USE them to look at things I may consider buying online. Example being shoes. Try them on, verify my size, then order online somewhere for typically less money. Same idea for other sports equipment equipment and clothes. Haven’t spent any money at Dick’s in a long time, but I have “browsed* there numerous times
When Dicks hired gun control lobbyist they are paying organizations towards stripping us of our constitutional rights. We all must protect our second Amendment rights, without that we have no rights.

You’re on target!!! Americans need to remember a country without the 2nd amendment is a country without any of the bill of rights. Without the ability to fight back IF Necessary against an oppressive government how are the other unalienable rights maintained for the populous? heck a California house representative has expressed he has the desire to do away with the 1st amendment so he can control free speech. The truth and direction of the democratic party is revealed. in action by the republicans is not any better.

I have never worried about Dick’s, The closest one to me is about 32 miles away. I have a really good Gun Store that is only 6 miles from my house and they honor Police and Military by giving a store discount on all sales of supplies and firearms.
They shot themselves in the foot…pun intended.
Your comment is very ‘on the money’! The Dick’s near me has empty parking spaces. In a HUGE mall of more than 50 name brand stores, including hardware giants Lowe’s and Home Depot, where folks shop til’ they drop, that is the only empty place… All of my friends, and family make sure to pass it by, so they won’t be a dick, like Dick’s!
I love guns and the 2nd amendment. I wish dicks still sold AR’s but hell Walmart quit selling them a few years ago. Has anyone raised a stink or quit going to Walmart over no AR’s????….i’ll Wait…

Walmart is being sued over raising the age limit to purchase long guns. Be interesting to see where that goes.
If I recall correctly, Walmart quit selling nearly all firearms in the majority of their stores, not just ARs. Their reasoning was that they didn’t sell a lot of them and it was a low to negative margin item. That, and maintaining FFLs at all the applicable locations was likely expensive and very tricky given that they have such a vast number of stores. They still sell ammo, shooting supplies, airsoft guns, etc., and still show support for 2A when it comes up.
So, in my opinion, they are VERY different circumstances and situations. Dick’s is saying that they hate us and want to strip us of our rights and are going as far as hiring lobbyists to do it. Walmart just made a business decision based on numbers without being a bunch of dicks about it. …see what I did there. =D
I live in Southern Arizona–the Benson and Sierra Vista Wal Mart stores sell long guns, and ammo for everything. No handguns or AR/AK type rifles, but most hunting caliber rifles and shotguns are in the showcases..
Same in Missouri. I frequent three WalMarts depending on which way I am going since I live in the country, between three cities. All of them still carry long guns including rimfire, centerfire hunting rifles, muzzleloaders and shotguns, lots of holsters and other gun and hunting stuff.. In the city (St. Louis) some WalMarts do not carry guns, but still sell ammo.
its not just about not selling ar’s…..Its more about destroying them and hiring anti-gun lobbyists to fight against our 2nd amendment rights
I think all of us(gun enthusiasts) should go into Dick’s at every opportunity, ask for the manager and ask where the guns are, express our displeasure(or outrage), and then leave without buying anything.

Well as far as this Patriot and hunter is concerned DICK’S can go the WAY of the DODO Bird and Kmart and take Field and Stream down the proverbial tube with them.!!
It serves Dick’s right. If they are going to call themselves a sporting goods store, they need to support all aspects of sports. That includes guns. I have not been back in a Dick’s store since they made the decision to not sell some guns and to destroy others. I will never darken the door of any Dick’s or any of their associate stores again. Stupid decisions like the ones that Dick’s made come with consequences. Sounds to me like they need a new CEO.

Good to hear that Dick’s is finally failing and maybe another failed store like Sears and Toys R Us. Hopefully Sears and Toys R Us will be saved since they were/are good stores to shop at. I no longer shop at Dicks and spend my money at Cabelas, Academy and other sport stores that support the 2nd Amendment!!

Dicks chose the wrong political party to follow. Dicks just add them selves into the realm of socialists and take away freedom. That is not allowed in America, the left is wide open now with their real objective of control rather then for the people. It is on display daily. Not one bit sorry for Dicks, what they chose to do is enter the world order that will cause people being poor and hungry. Should have read “Rules for Radicals” details how to take over a country. gun owners and users have a very long memory of being kicked to the curb. this reminds me of the definition of TACT. the ability to tell a person to go to hell and have them happy to be on their way. GO TO HELL DICKS

Well what can you say? Dick’s made their bed, now they have to lay in it. The one thing I can’t seem to understand is Walmart is doing the same thing Dick’s has done, and no one seems to care. I guess more people are dependent on Walmart than Dick’s. When was the last time Walmart’s gun policy made the news? Not throwing stones by any means and I am not a Dick’s Sporting Good’s supporter, but I think Walmart should get the same treatment as Dick’s. No more purchases from Walmart. Buy your ammo online and your guns from a local dealer.
I don’t feel sorry for them. We 2nd amender’s like to shop field and stream stores that provide for all of the seasons of the year. Not just for the summer season.

I personally turned in my Dick’s buyer’s club card the very next day after hearing their stupid Anti-American move. I further failed to renew my F&S subscription and I never intend to subscribe again or to ever set foot in any of their establishments, regardless of the name they put on it. I was old enough at 18 years and 23 days for Uncle Sam to take me into the military, hand me a rifle and pistol and send me off to war. I feel like if a man or woman is old enough for the US Military to give them a weapon and send them into harms way to protect the Fat Cats of Dick’s Board, they are old enough to buy one for themselves. GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE SECOND AMENDMENT AND PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP!

Even before they emasculated themselves , Dick’s had lost my business. I have been in only one Dick’s store and NO ONE offered to help me find anything.

I believe Dick’s sealed their fate when they tried to make a statement about certain guns and gun owners that will eventually doom their stores. The CEO was trying to impress the democrats and David Hogg followers by destroying all the MSR’s instead of just discontinuing selling them. They made a statement alright, one that sent their hunting, firearm, and ammo customers completely away to another merchant. They definitely sent the wrong message to a huge part of their customer base. He more or less shot himself in the foot (pun intended) by this move. The message those customers got was, we don’t need your business anymore. And guess what, those customers got that message loud and clear and it’s taking it’s toll on the future of Dick’s Sporting Goods. He asked for it and he got it.

I used to be a regular shopper for all sorts of sports clothing and equipment for my family as well as for hunting and shooting related products at Dicks, but no more since their anti 2nd amendment actions.
Cabelas now gets my business and I tell all of my friends why.
Businesses ought to stick with meeting customer needs and not playing politics.
I’ll never shop at these two places again!
Not sure about the Review article, I purchased a first class shooter last month, Savage Axis II at Dick’s at a very great price, as well as some shotgun ammo well below price. I have continued to shop Dick’s on line and in store and made some incredible buys, Bounty Hunter metal hunter w/probe for $80, Bear Karnage crossbow, scoped, all accessories and bolts for $200 delivered to my home; been shopping crossbows for several years and that is by far the best price I could have hoped for anywhere, I have quit shopping Bass Pro/Cabela’s as prices for products have become outrageous. I am a Lifetime NRA member, GOA member and retired military, I am not seeing all of the hype as stated in the Review report.
Larry, if you like to save money more than save your Second Amendment Rights, more power to you. Just don’t come whining to me when THEY come to get your guns!
I have never been back to a Dicks store and encourage my friends not to trade there. In fact I wouldn’t trade there if they started selling firearms and following the law.
