The Scout was built to Gunsite founder Jeff Cooper’s exacting specs…and yours.
The Scout rifle by Steyr is everything that a modern rifle should be, but it’s definitely a splurge…unless, of course, you live within driving distance of Steyr Arms US’ corporate headquarters in Bessemer, Alabama. If you do, then you really should know that Steyr’s having an Open House and Factory Direct Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the 15th to the 17th! Don’t miss the jaw-dropping $1,100 off the Scout package, which includes a Scout rifle, Swarovski Z3 riflescope, and Leupold PRW2 rings. These prices are only good for the Factory-Direct Sale; supplies are limited and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here for more details!
Of course, you can also win one! Right now, Steyr’s Elite Experience Giveaway is still ongoing…and will be through August 31, 2019. Three lucky winners will receive either a Scout, a THB (Tactical Heavy Barrel), or an AUG–and an expenses-paid class at the Steyr Academy to help you get the most out of your new gun. Overblown, overhyped, overpriced…….and ugly. I was sick of JC blathering on about scout rifles being the do all end all 25 years ago and nothing has changed.

Not a big fan of the .308 cartridge. I know there are plenty of folks who like it, but I prefer something that reaches out farther and shoots flatter. I’m not a fan of the Steyr Scout either. I think it’s way overpriced for what it is (can you say “privilege of using Col. Cooper’s name tax?”). $1600 for the basic model!!! No thanks. I’ll stick with my .300 Win Mag Winchester Model 70, and spend the grand I’ll save on upgrading optics. As far as home defense, a bolt action would be my next to last choice. The whole concept of a Do Everything Rifle isn’t reality based, and it’s more like an Almost Good Enough Rifle at best. I’m more of a “He who dies with the most guns wins” attitude kind of guy.

I disagree with “Do Everything” rifle. For hunting purposes only, maybe yes. SHTF, WWROL, living off grid, defending the castle, no. If I am doing the latter, I want something that can do both hunting and defend and rapidly.
Sure, the Scout is listed on Steyr’s website under the hunting rifles but when I read “Do All” I immediately assumed they meant doing EVERYTHING, for any situation. So maybe they should change the line to “The HUNTING Do Everything Rifle”.
As far as hunting goes, don’t you think someone hunting hogs or Coyotes would want semi-auto, not a bolt action?
