Bloomberg Admits It: Gun Control is Racist

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Are you wondering what the remaining Bloomberg-funded anti-gun Presidential candidates might have up their sleeves as we move into 2020? Well, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior, so now is as good a time as any to remind the world at large that Mike Bloomberg has admitted, out loud and in public, that he believes male members of American racial minorities need to be disarmed for their own good. Here’s the money quote from the story linked above, including Bloomberg’s specific verbiage:

“…95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: a male minority between the ages of 15 and 25, The Aspen Times reported. ‘Cities need to get guns out of this group’s hands and keep them alive,’ the former three-term mayor said, according to The Times. ‘These kids think they’re going to get killed anyway because all their friends are getting killed,’ said Mr. Bloomberg, who funds the gun-control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety. “They just don’t have any long-term focus or anything. It’s a joke to have a gun. It’s a joke to pull a trigger.”

If you’re a student of Constitutional rights and of the history of the Second Amendment, chances are that you’re well aware of the racist roots of gun control in America. For decades, the nattering nabobs of No-Guns-Allowed have done their very best to disavow that racism–usually by hysterically accusing pro-gun-rights groups and armed citizens of being the “real” racists. But history–as well as Bloomberg’s comments recorded above–begs to differ.

Let’s start with the fact that the very first time anyone in America got the idea to tinker with the Second Amendment was as part of the vile, racist Jim Crow code of laws. Former slaveowners of the South were apparently a bit…nervous…about what would happen if the freedmen were to take up arms. And the first gun control group? Well, that was the Ku Klux Klan. Here’s an interesting excerpt from an article by noted Constitutional historian David Kopel:

“Immediately after the Civil War, Southern states enacted Black Codes, designed to keep the ex-slaves in de facto slavery and submission. Mississippi’s provision was typical: No freedman ‘shall keep or carry fire-arms of any kind, or any ammunition’ without police permission. In areas where the Ku Klux Klan took control, ‘almost universally the first thing done was to disarm the negroes and leave them defenseless,’ recounted the civil rights attorney Albion Tourgée, who represented Plessy in Plessy v. Ferguson.”

It’s an interesting day in America when it’s hard to tell the difference between Bloomberg’s 2015 commentary and the 1870 Mississippi “Black Codes.” Expect things to get much more interesting as the 2020 election looms nearer. Mike Bloomberg’s “disarm the young Black males” comment wasn’t just a gaffe or a slip of the tongue; based on his actions before and since, he genuinely believes that. And although he himself isn’t running for President, whoever wins the Democratic nomination can expect to receive a mountain of funding from him.

For the record, and loud enough so they can hear us in the back seats: The Second Amendment is for all law-abiding American citizens, regardless of the color of their skin. Shame on you, Mike Bloomberg, for suggesting otherwise.
