Own an Authentic SIG SAUER M17 Military Surplus Pistol

When SIG SAUER first won its contract to arm the American military with its M17 pistol almost exactly two years ago, it was big news–but don’t take that to mean anyone was surprised. Everyone knew the M17, based on the SIG P320 platform, was going to be a winner with the troops…and has it ever been. Today, we’ve learned that SIG is bringing authentic M17 Military Surplus pistols to the civilian market, and they’re shipping to dealers now. SIG informs us that this is a limited-availability offering, and that the condition (and individual pricing) of the handguns will vary based on field use.
The success of the SIG M17 proves the ways in which the Second Amendment and American firearms culture have enriched our military’s effectiveness. The P320 platform was originally designed for the use of regular armed citizens, then modified and made available to the military. Now those military guns are coming full-circle right back home to the civilians whose desires for a striker-fired handgun helped hone the M17.
The M17 Military Surplus handguns were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Army according to the original specifications of the Modular Handgun System (MHS). The M17 Surplus is a 9mm striker-fired semi-automatic, featuring a coyote-tan PVD coated stainless steel slide, coyote-tan controls, and a coyote-tan medium carry grip module with U.S. Government slide markings and serial numbers.
The handguns come equipped with SIGLITE sights (orange rear and green front), removable night sight rear plates, and the same optic cut as specified by the MHS contract. Should you wish to, you can fit a SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO1Pro Optic. The M17 features an ambidextrous manual safety, ships with (1) 17-round and (2) 21-round magazines, includes an official SIG SAUER M17 Certificate of Authenticity, and comes packed just as the handguns are delivered to the U.S. Military.
“The M17 Military Surplus handguns are a very special release from SIG SAUER, that gives consumers the opportunity to own a piece of history, and includes a certificate of authenticity,” said Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “These handguns were originally issued by the U.S. Army and fielded during the initial domestic and in-theater deployment of the Modular Handgun System.”

Why buy used at $650 when you can buy a variety of excellent pistols new for less than that? About $400 would be a more than fair price as I have seen SIG police trade ins going for less than that with extra magazines.
The military kept using 1911s and M-14s that were 50 years old and these plastic guns are retired after a couple years?
A little digging found the used ones for $535 and new M18 for $599….I wouldn’t pay $650 for a used one.
Quality must be inferior to the 1911 and Beretta if they only last a couple years then have to be surplussed out. I think I will pass on them and all the other Sig Sauer firearms. I’ll stick to my 1911’s.
Thank you very much.
I bought my P320 brand new for $499 in 2016. I am good. To me, $650 is a tad much for a used pistol, even with military cache. My 2 cents.
How can a pistol that has only been in the military 2 years already be surplus??
These we’re built for initial feedback and considered as pre-production. As such, they cannot be fielded for Soldier use. SIG could’ve refurbished them for reissue, but it was likely cost prohibitive, particularly when they could make money selling on the civilian market.
As an aside, I am an Army acquisition officer, so I deal with this quite regularly.
I can’t find even one dealer that has any idea where to get one.
$650.00
How much $$$ moolah ? Nice 🔫
Where is the freaking price?
