NRA Show Cancelled Due to COVID-19

We here at Guns & Gadgets Daily recently received a notice from the National Rifle Association that their planned Annual Meetings have been cancelled. The announcement, which is reproduced in its entirety, follows.

Due to concern over the safety of our NRA family and community, we regret to inform you that we have decided to cancel the 2021 Annual Meeting & Exhibits. This cancellation applies to all events and meetings that were scheduled in Houston. We will provide future notification regarding a rescheduled date for the annual Meeting of Members.

We make this difficult decision after analyzing relevant data regarding COVID-19 in Harris County, Texas. We also consulted with medical professionals, local officials, major sponsors & exhibitors, and many NRA members before arriving at this decision. The NRA Annual Meeting welcomes tens of thousands of people, and involves many events, meetings, and social gatherings. Among the highlights of our annual meeting are acres of exhibit space featuring the latest and greatest firearms, the display of countless accessories, and the offering of adventures and group gatherings that many travel hundreds, and some even thousands, of miles to experience. We realize that it would prove difficult, if not impossible, to offer the full guest experience that our NRA members deserve.

The NRA’s top priority is ensuring the health and well-being of our members, staff, sponsors, and supporters.  We are mindful that NRA Annual Meeting patrons will return home to family, friends and co-workers from all over the country, so any impacts from the virus could have broader implications. Those are among the reasons why we decided to cancel our 2021 event.

We would like to thank our members, attendees, exhibitors, and staff for their understanding and support. We are grateful for the many contributions of the George R. Brown Convention Center, state and local officials, community organizers, area hotels, and countless event venues across Houston. We receive enormous support from Houston and the State of Texas – and we hope to return to the Bayou City for a full annual meeting experience.

The NRA looks forward to a Celebration of Freedom in Louisville in May 2022. In the meantime, we will support many other NRA local events and smaller gatherings – in a manner that is protective of our members and celebrates our Second Amendment freedom.

We wish continued health and safety to our entire NRA family.

Although the NRA Show itself–the exhibit hall, the concerts, the events and seminars–can be cancelled at any time, the NRA Annual Meeting of Members must be held yearly according to the organization’s bylaws. Where and how the Second Amendment giant intends to do this remains to be seen at this time, but we’ll keep you posted!

  1. Funny how I got to find out about this here. The NRA is out of touch with it’s members, spending money like there is no tomorrow on Wayne’s little trips with his girlfriend and on other things like shysters they like. I get these beg a grams from them all the time, until they get their act straight, no more dough for the NRA.

  2. The most pathetic thing is failure to notify it’s members. I have to read it here ? When I was supposed to be leaving in less than a week to attend? Before the big blow up and firings we used to get emails about everything that concerned gun owners, now we never hear from them. Ever. No news on court cases, no news on the meetings, they’ve even stopped answering emails about upcoming shows. The ONLY time I get anything from them is to beg for money.

  3. As my family and myself are Life Members, we will All be voting to REMOVE Wayne LaPiere….. when, and if they let us vote. They cancelled Nashville, now Houston, I would not hold my breath on Louisville happening.

  4. I’ll never renew my NRA membership on believable over a virus that I had and I’m 68 years old it was nothing God is the only one that can help us specially traders like trump for that matter every politician

  5. I believe that the main problem was that Wayne La Pierre just can’t stop buying expensive suits. Like many others who run non-profits, Wayne has become so self-important that he is killing the NRA. For the NRA’s own good, the Directors must throw him out. For the lousy 2020 election performance of the NRA , he should be thrown out. Wayne can afford to retire. He was well paid all those years. He can be replaced with one of the more active, knowledgeable Directors!

  6. It’s good that the meeting and show were cancelled. However, I would have liked to see a statement urging NRA members and friends to get vaccinated. If republicans would just get the shots and wear masks these cancellations would not be necessary.

    1. Bill, you sound like a control-freak Democrat. Many of the current Covid cases are with folks who’ve been vaccinated & mask wearers. NRA just caved to pressure from the demagogues on the left. Not renewing my membership with a spineless organization. And no, major sports franchises don’t cancel games now.

  7. That’s a mistaken excuse to cancel.
You, the nation, as a whole, have been played with this flu pandemic.
The shots given todate gave caused more deaths and long term health issues than the bug ever has!

    1. Bullshit.

They’re doing NOTHING just as they have throughout the ENTIRE Trump POTUS.

PERIOD. END OF STORY. FULL STOP.

    2. Yes..the plandemic in all the cancelling La Pierre will steal even more money..fire him and take his pension ..he has stolen millions in outright theft and giving contracts to his cohorts

    1. Apparently many major sponsors and manufacturers were having high covid cases at home and were concerned that exposing more of their staff to large groups would worsen the issue all around. Several major gun manufacturers had informed the NRA that they would not be attending after all. What’s a gun show without most of the guns?

  8. “Due to concern over the safety of our NRA family” That’s BS.
The NRA is broke. The reason is because of mismanagement by the board and the high spending, on himself, of Wayne.

I’ll not be renewing my membership until the NRA rids itself of that president.

  9. Totally ridiculous! They fell prey to the communist propaganda machine of Pal Joey’s followers

  10. It is totally unbelievable that an institution as old and established as the NRA would stoop to the demands and whims of the radical leftist, criminal-democrat run Houston – with their non-scientific demands and requirements. For several decades I’ve thought the NRA stood for the American people.

Apparently the writing was on the wall when Ted Nugent exited this once great organization.

The NRA is no longer viable and has gotten the last dollar they will EVER get from me.

  11. A little late getting the message out , now I hope the airlines & hotel will be JUST as helpful….

  12. Just hoping the Airlines and Hotels are as understanding as your vendors and attendees are when they ask for refunds!!
