Hot Take: MCG Reflex Red-Dot Sight

Looking for an inexpensive, easy-to-install reflex red-dot sight?

The ability to quickly and reliably acquire a sight picture is key to shooting success, but sadly it isn’t always quite as easy as focusing on the front sight. Whether you’re new to shooting and growing increasingly confused by all the advice about sight picture and hold (“Wait a minute, you want me to hold the sights below the aiming point?”), or a more experienced shooter who is just now getting to enjoy the dubious gifts that advancing age bestows upon our eyesight, you might be ready to go with a reflex red-dot sight. That’s why we were excited to hear about the recently released MCG Reflex Red-Dot Sight from My Crisis Gear.

If you’re not familiar with reflex red-dot sights, what’s great about them is that once they’re properly mounted and sighted-in, they’re extremely intuitive to use–even under stress and low-light conditions. You may have noticed that “once they’re properly mounted and sighted-in” caveat in that last sentence, and that’s part of what makes the MCG Reflex Red-Dot Sight interesting. The manufacturer reports that, unlike many other sighting systems, this particular unit can be installed simply in three minutes with the included gear, detailed directions written in English, and included batteries. Better yet, as long as your gun has a Weaver or Picatinny rail installed, you can mount these on your pistol, long gun, BB gun, or even paintball gun.

Another factor that can sometimes put people off the idea of installing a red-dot sight on their gun is that many such sights aren’t especially budget-friendly. The MCG Reflex Red-Dot Sight is an exception. According to their website, these sighting systems are available for $39.95, with discounts applied for multiple purchases. They’re also advertising a 60-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee, so it’s a great way to dip your toes into the waters of enhanced optics.
